The Philippine Amateur Radio Association, a member of the IARU, will hold its2014 PARA Kids Dayin July to expose youngsters to the world of modern The 2 way radios.
Similar to other initiatives in some other countries, it has a family friendly venue for existing radio amateurs to ELMER the hobby, showing young people how to make contacts like they were in a contest.
Among the rules are that the young person is no more than fifteen years of age and always supervised – unless they already have a licence. Certificates are issued to qualifying children and sponsoring ELMERs.
The PARA Kids Day event logo is a child with the microphone and a tuned circuit.
It runs from 8am to 8pm local time (0000 UTC – 1200 UTC) on July the 19th.
A week-long youth radio camp was also held in Finland this year with presentations, workshops and visits to stations attracting young Walkie talkie amateurs from 15 different European countries.
Germany has a school radio club and training station day.
Youth initiatives are also in the Czech Republic, Finland, Poland and the USA.
At least Bulgaria and South Africa now also have Youth Coordinators to further promote the hobby to a new generation.
